I went to Guadeloupe in January and February 2026 to document mas traditions there. This follows on work I have done in Trinidad, Grenada, Dominica, Montserrat and Nevis. These images show “mas a po” which is the tradition that drew me to Guadeloupe. It is incredible to experience such powerful human energy in the drums, conch shells, “chacha’s” (large calabashes filled with seeds) and call/response singing. I also love that this mas is always infused with incense and announced by the booming sound of “fwets” (whips).
